It’s important to distinguish between small and large business users of electricity and gas as there can be substantial cost savings and other benefits based on energy consumption.

Small electricity and gas customers or Small / Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are defined as those who use less than 160 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity per year, although this threshold is changing to 100 megawatt hours on 1 July 2013 as part of the move to a national energy customer framework.

Large electricity and gas customers or Commercial / Industrial (C&I) are defined as those who use more than 160 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity per year, although this threshold is changing to 100 megawatt hours on 1 July 2013 as part of the move to a national energy customer framework.
